As you browse the Women of Wisdom website, I invite you to ask yourself three questions:

  • Who do you work for?
  • What is your job?
  • Where are you going when you leave this earth?
  • The answer to these three questions will lead to the forth question:

Proverbs 31:10: Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.

Women of Wisdom (W.O.W.) is a non-profit organization composed of diverse women seeking to improve the lives of women and young girls through encouragement, empowerment, and support of a strong networking system. W.O.W. is based on Christian principles, one in particular. In the book of Proverbs (in the Holy Bible), chapter thirty-one, beginning at the tenth verse, the ultimate woman is portrayed. She is hardworking, loyal, trustworthy, successful, generous, kind, loving, wise, etc.… This woman is a blessing to everyone she encounters. Through W.O.W., women are encouraged to reach their fullest potential in life and not allow life issues to encumber opportunity. Our goal is for every woman to know her purpose, know that she is loved unconditionally, and for her to realize she is an asset to herself and her community.

W.O.W. was started in 2004, by Mischelle Houser. The organization was started as Mrs. Houser envisioned an open forum for women to discuss life problems that control or hinder their lives. As women come from different walks of life, healing is the commonality that unites them. Our organization is designed to cater to the whole person: spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. Some of the core issues we address include: domestic violence, substance abuse, rape, depression, financial difficulties, homelessness, and other life-controlling problems. Women learn in W.O.W., how to get through their issues through support and guidance from one another. Healing comes by sharing; lifting the emotional burdens by telling someone else about the problem. “As a I was going through my own trials, I wished I had someone to talk to concerning the issue,” said Mischelle Houser.

W.O.W., THOR & D.O.W.

W.O.W. is a nonprofit 501c-(3) organization with the headquarters in Rural Hall, NC. In the last few years, W.O.W. has expanded greatly, both locally and statewide. When the ladies of W.O.W. are not functioning in teaching/learning capacity, bettering the community is the next priority. W.O.W. operates a transitional home for women called The House of Refuge (THOR).

THOR is open to women, starting at thirteen who also suffer from some of the above debilitating life circumstances. In addition to operating THOR, W.O.W. also has a fellowship group for young girls called Daughters of Wisdom (D.O.W.). The D.O.W. group exists to ensure that all young girls have an opportunity to develop and mature while having access to resources and people that will make growing up easier. Furthermore, W.O.W. also mentors/tutors teenage girls and pregnant women, ministers to/visits the elderly/shut-in, and makes deposits to local food banks. Ultimately, the goal of W.O.W. is to make life easier for women. Through fellowship, learning & sharing, and the guidance of Jesus Christ, we plan to change the world one woman at a time. W.O.W. opens its doors to all women regardless of religious affiliation, stereotype, or any other bias. Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies!
